Much is made of Tunbridge Wells being a creative hub for the arts, but one area that is not mentioned often is the performing arts. In and around the town there are many talented youngsters and many of them attend the Italia Conti Associate Performing Arts School which runs every Saturday during term time and provides training in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Singing, Acting and Musical Theatre.
Nearly 300 students performed in the biennial show ‘Don’t Walk – Dance!’ Aged from 3 years through to eighteen, the students showcased their skills, performing traditional numbers from ‘The King & I’ and ‘Kiss Me Kate’ also hit Broadway shows such as ‘Newsies’, ‘Memphis’ and ‘Spring Awakening’. Add in Hip Hop, Singing and the innovative Tap routines and you have an incredibly entertaining couple of hours.
For me it was a full weekend behind my camera covering the dress run and three performances and amassing a vast amount of images in the process. A very worthwhile couple of days spent in the theatre, the talented children we have in the town will never cease to.
